Poll Results for Library Web Page

On August 31 at 12:00 AM the polls closed for "What do you want on the library web site?" 31 visitors cast their choices. Here are the results analyzed by web site coordinator Barbara Henry who says "I'm no Zogby!"

It looks like these respondents at least were thinking traditional library. Website features having to do with books and reading won out: Book Reviews 51%, Online Book Club 48%, and New Book Alerts 61%. Multi-media technology wasn't so hot with respondents: Videos 35%, Audio 32%, and Pictures 32%. Only 32% said they wanted youth activities on the site. One of the interesting stand outs was 61% wanted community information on the library web site.

What impact will these results have? This was a random poll with a very small reponse which is not scientifically accurate. But it does give us a glimpse into what some of our web visitors are thinking. Feed back of all kinds is important to the library. The results could generate some new ideas like: an online book forum where people can discuss books and authors, perhaps an online community center and new technologies to distribute book alerts and reviews. We hope in the near future to conduct a community wide library survey that will provide more accurate results on a wider range of topics.

Watch this web site for occasional informal polls where you can vote on more topics and issues. Thanks to those who participated.

Convention Days

Balloons, confetti, votes!

It will soon be political convention season in America, as the Democratic Party meets Aug. 25-28 in Denver, and the Republican Party gathers Sept. 1-4 in Minneapolis. Some observers see these meetings as celebrations of democracy, others as outmoded events that no longer serve a constructive purpose. Whatever your opinion, you can use books from the library to learn more about the history of political conventions and revisit some of the most memorable conventions of the past century. Read more and browse the list compiled by the Pioneer Library System. Remember, each book is linked to the online catalog. Find a book you like, place a hold. We'll let you know when you can pick it up.
